The Sherlocks to play biggest headline show with 2024 homecoming at Don Valley Bowl

Fresh from a sold-out UK tour, the four-piece revealed the news ahead of two nights – Friday and Saturday, November 3 and 4 – at Network Sheffield, formerly Plug, after the gig was moved from O2 Academy Sheffield.
It follows the summer success of their third top ten album People Like Me & You, which debuted at number four, write Graham Walker and Richard Derbyshire.
Frontman Kiaran Crook, his brother and drummer Brandon, lead guitarist Alex Procter and bassist Trent Jackson say next summer’s show will be “the biggest thing we have done so far by a mile.”
Next summer’s Don Valley Bowl gig will see the band and their fans come together to celebrate everything they have achieved at the iconic venue where the band’s founding members Kiaran and Brandon, were raised in Bolton upon Dearne.
It will also celebrate the 10th anniversary of their first release, the early demo of signature anthem Live For The Moment.
Kiaran, in an exclusive chat, said: “We can’t wait! It’s something that’s needed to happen for a while now and next year is the perfect time. We’ve got four albums under our belt now and the fans have taken this journey to the next level for us. It’s only right we repay them with a proper day out and a memorable gig that will go down in our own history.
“We are hoping people will come from Sheffield and far beyond. It is only a train ride or a car journey away, and, for a standalone event, what we have planned is going to be nuts.”
Brandon added: “After selling out O2 Academy Sheffield, the idea of doing something else huge in Yorkshire has been on our radar for some time, but it has only been recently that these plans have come together. Don Valley is the perfect venue.”
Playing Don Valley is another Sheffield milestone for a group who, in 2016, were the first unsigned band to sell out The Leadmill since Arctic Monkeys and who then went onto support Kings of Leon at the Utilita Arena in 2017.
And as festival veterans, it will be a world away from their first Tramlines Fringe appearances at intimate Sheffield pub venues in the city or opening the Festival Republic stage at Reading and Leeds at 11 o’clock in the morning.
Brandon said: “We have been honoured to be guests at some of the biggest festivals in the World and now we are having our own party where everyone from Yorkshire and beyond is invited.”
Songwriter Kiaran had dropped hints to fans of “a huge outdoor gig next year in Yorkshire” every night during the band’s current sold-out tour, but he fell short of revealing the exact location.
Next summer’s event will be another first for lead guitarist Alex and bassist Trent, who made their first live appearance as part of The Sherlocks on the main stage at Tramlines in Sheffield in 2021 and have now recorded two of the band’s top ten records.
While The Sherlocks have never performed at Don Valley, drummer Brandon watched Arctic Monkeys both times they appeared there on consecutive nights in June 2011, only a year after the Sherlocks were formed.
Having climbed every step of the ladder from playing intimate venues to arenas, The Sherlocks are known for electrifying gigs packed full of hit singles such as Live for The Moment, Falling, Will You Be There? and Chasing Shadows.
And this year, their top four album People Like Me & You has added even more tunes, including big hitter lead single Sirens, Radio One Track of the Week Remember All the Girls, and tour favourite Don’t Let It Out.
Kiaran explained: “When you step into one of our shows, you know you have come to see a proper rock and roll band. Everything we do is live. There are no backing tracks, distractions, or gimmicks, and anything could happen.”
The Sherlocks also support Keane on the European dates in spring 2024 and complete this year with their own series of continental shows starting later this month.
Bolton On Dearne based The Sherlocks raised cans of their own new pilsner in a toast to fans as they celebrated their highest ever album chart position.
The four-piece teamed up with York based brewery Brew York to release a pilsner named after them. The first batch sold out in hours but fans can now order more at brewyork.co.uk/product/sherlocks-pilsner.
The latest album, which also topped the Official Record Store Chart, was given a boost when fans turned out to buy it and meet the band for signings and photos at a pop-up shop on the steps of Sheffield City Hall.

Their debut album Live For The Moment and third set, World I Understand, both reached the top 10.
After touring the country’s smaller music venues, The Sherlocks became the first unsigned band to sell-out The Leadmill in Sheffield since Arctic Monkeys and went on to have the biggest selling debut album by a band in 2016.
They’ve sold-out headline shows including Manchester’s O2 Ritz and Academy plus London’s Electric Ballroom, stormed arenas as special guests to Liam Gallagher, Kings of Leon and Kaiser Chiefs, and made a big impression with main stage festival sets at Reading and Leeds.
Alex and Trent joined the band in 2020, recording the band’s third album at Rockfield Studios with Manic Street Preachers producer Dave Eringa, before making their live performance debut with the Crook brothers on the main stage at Tramlines in 2021.
