Brian Blessed, a household name renowned for his iconic roles on screen and stage, is set to grace Mexborough with his presence this Friday, October 27, to unveil a Blue Plaque dedicated to his mentor, Harry Dobson.
Harry, a director and producer of the Mexborough Theatre Guild, was a guiding star in the Doncaster theatre scene for many years. He nurtured the talents of numerous acclaimed actors, including Keith Barron and the indomitable Brian Blessed himself.
The Blue Plaque, an emblem of their enduring connection and Harry’s profound influence, will be proudly mounted on the façade of Pettit’s Shoe Shop in Montagu Square. The unveiling ceremony, open to all who wish to attend, will take place at 3pm.
Jason Mace, the visionary CEO of Gala Tent and the proud owner of the Empress Building, is thrilled to announce this extraordinary homecoming event. The Empress Building, an architectural gem steeped in Mexborough’s rich history, will be the backdrop for this occasion. The building’s exquisite ballroom, painstakingly restored to its former glory, serves as a testament to the town’s heritage and opulence.
Commenting on the event, Jason Mace said: “It is my privilege to extend an invitation to all to visit the Empress Building, immerse themselves in the enchanting ballroom,
and create cherished memories. The response to Brian’s homecoming has been overwhelming, with daily inquiries and ticket requests pouring in.”
