Worcester v Doncaster Knights: We’ve got nothing to lose at Sixways, says Glen Kenworthy

Despite the fact that unbeaten Bristol top the table, Knights coach Glen Kenworthy rates this weekend’s hosts as favourites for the title.

“They are head and shoulders above everybody else in this league,” said the New Zealander.

“They’ve got a good set-piece and, whereas Bristol are just scraping wins on occasions, Worcester are just constantly winning comfortably.”

He added: “They are unbeaten at home so there will be no pressure on us because no-one expects us to do anything down there. But we’ll try and play our game and try and score some tries.

“We know it’s going to be tough but it will be good for the boys. It’s a nice ground and there will be a big crowd.

“Obviously we’ll be going there to try and win the game but if we can’t do that then to put on a good performance and come away with a losing bonus point or pick up a point for scoring four tries, would still represent a good result for us.”

Kenworthy says he has no problems going to Worcester and trying to build on Saturday’s impressive 38-17 B&I Cup quarter-final win over Munster A, rather than face lesser opposition.

“There are no easy games so it’s not a problem going there,” he said.

“The next month or so is probably our toughest period of the season with games against Yorkshire Carnegie, Pirates and Bristol in addition to Worcester, but I’m confident that we can pick up points from those games.

“We’ve already beaten Carnegie at Headingley, we’ve beaten Pirates down there in the B&I Cup, and we put in a really good shift against Bristol at Ashton Gate, so we don’t fear them.

“Sometimes it just depends which Doncaster team turns up on the day. That is what we are trying to sort out.

“Saturday’s win was what we needed. I know it was only a B&I Cup game but it was a quarter-final and we are now through to a semi-final and Doncaster hasn’t been in this position for quite a while.”
