Here, we look at what happened next for every player that made an appearance in that memorable season. Part two will follow soon.

1. Jordan Ball
12/13 appearances: 2. Having scored on his debut in the EFL Trophy, the young striker was released at the end of that season, having signed pro terms only one year prior. He joined Halifax Town later that year and has been in non-league ever since, apart from a short spell in Sweden.

2. Kyle Bennett
12/13 appearances: 38. The winger remained with Rovers for two more years - making more than 130 appearances in total - before being released. He then joined Portsmouth, making more than 100 appearances, before a 2018 switch to Bristol Rovers, where he remains today.

3. Robbie Blake
12/13 appearances: 14. Veteran forward Blake joined Rovers at the start of the season but struggled for regular appearances, particularly in the second half of the season. He was released in March of 2013, a month before Rovers won the league. Rovers were his last club as a professional

4. Chris Brown
12/13 appearances: 42. The striker was a stalwart that season and even more so then next as Rovers battled hard to stay in the Championship. His efforts earned him a switch to Blackburn Rovers following relegation. He joined Bury after being released by Blackburn but did not make an appearance. Injuries forced him to retire at the age of 33.

5. Sammy Clingan
12/12 appearances: 9. Having joined Rovers as a free agent on a one month rolling contract in October 2012, Clingan was released after two months and moved to Kilmarnock in January 2013. He then switched to his native Northern Ireland with Linfield and continues to play for Glenavon at 36.

6. James Coppinger
12/13 appearances: 27. Whatever happened to him? Having been sent out on loan to Nottingham Forest at the start of the 12/13 season to cut costs, he returned to play a vital part in Rovers' run to the title. He remains with the club to this day, at the age of 39, having become the all-time leading appearance maker.

7. David Cotterill
12/13 appearances: 49. Having contributed to more goals than anyone else in English football that season, he remained with Rovers through the Championship, making another 43 appearances. He activated a relegation release clause in the summer of 2014 and joined Birmingham to be closer to family in south Wales. After a loan spell at Bristol City, he had time in the Indian Super League before retirement. He is now a mental health consultant for football
