It’s fair to say that Newmarket trainer Robert Eddery has not made the same explosive impact on racing as his older brother, Pat. But he goes about his business quietly and effectively, collecting some decent-priced winners along the way, and I’m hopeful that this two-year-old son of Captain Gerrard can be another in what looks a competitive, but ordinary, nursery handicap. The colt is yet to get off the mark in five outings, but ran well at Yarmouth last week until getting badly hampered late on. His mark of 68, which looks generous on an earlier effort in a good maiden at Newmarket, is lightened even further by a 5lb claimer, and although there is a question mark over this sizeable step-up in trip to 9f, the dam’s side of his pedigree suggests he will be suited by the extra stamina-test.
