RACING TIP OF THE DAY
Tuesday 14th October
SCOPPIO DEL CARRO
Leicester 5.40 EACH/WAY
Andrew Balding’s three-year-old returns to Leicester, the scene of the only triumph of his career so far six weeks ago when he quickened up smartly to land a very similar race to this handicap. He looked a progressive sort that day, so it was disappointing to see him follow up with a poor effort at Chester last time. However, because he was handicapped by a high draw, got hampered early on and looked so ill at ease round the tight turns, I am prepared to forgive and forget that run. Today’s soft ground raises a question mark, but given that his dam is by King’s Best, whose progeny tend to relish cut, there is every chance he will be able to cope. At his overnight price of around 12/1, he’s certainly worth an each/way nibble.
YESTERDAY: SARSTED MEETING ABANDONED (waterlogged)
