Sheffield Eagles to play first three games of 2020 season in Doncaster
Sheffield Eagles will play the first three home games of the 2020 season at Castle Park, home of Doncaster Knights.
The Eagles had previously confirmed they were still working towards starting the campaign at their Olympic Legacy Park home in Sheffield.
For the past two seasons, the club have played in a temporary structure at the site in the lower Don Valley, but planned work to see the stadium finally constructed has seen Mark Aston’s side once again hit the road – albeit as a temporary solution.
Eagles general manager Liam Claffey said: “When weighing up this decision it was the view of the Board that it could be no longer than what we have announced. We are Sheffield Eagles; Sheffield is our home and we are proud to represent the Steel City.
“With so many moving parts surrounding the new stadium at the Olympic Legacy Park we as a club needed further time to ensure the Olympic Legacy Park would provide a safe and suitable match day venue with the adequate facilities in place whilst construction occurs on the site.”
The Eagles have played home fixtures at Castle Park previously when pitch work was taking place at their then regular home of Doncaster Rovers’ Keepmoat Stadium.
The first three home games see the club take on Toulouse (February 16), Widnes (March 22) and Oldham (April 15).
The club are set to return to the OLP for the match against Swinton Lions on May 3.
