Pontefract League: Hatfield Town go top of Division One

Hatfield Town beat Ackworth by 21 runs to leapfrog them into top spot in Division One of the Pontefract & District League.

David Barrett carried his bat for 87 to anchor Town’s innings of 187-4 which also included 35 from Luke Cockburn.

James Winstanley claimed 4-22 as Ackworth replied with 166 all out.

Hatfield’s excellent start to the season has seen them win seven out of ten league games and lose only once.

They have an eight-point lead at the summit.

Askern Welfare lie third in the table after a 16-run victory at home to West Bretton.

David Longley top scored with 77 to help Askern post 205-8.

The visitors gave the chase a good go but came up just short, closing on 189-8. Sachira Madapatha claimed 3-40.

Hooton Pagnell, who sit seventh in the table, were also victorious against Hundhill Hall.

They were indebted to Sam Illsley (60no) and Steve Hardaker (42no) whose unbroken eighth wicket partnership lifted their total to 144-7 after the top order failed to fire.

The visitors could only muster 138 all out in response as Thilantha Perera snared 5-29 and Hardaker took 3-38.
