Kerr stars with hat-trick as Doncaster Knights beat London Scottish

Zach Kerr scored a hat-trick of tries as Doncaster Knights kept their very faint hopes of gatecrashing Champ Rugby’s top six alive.

Eight points separate Darren Fearn’s side from the top six play-off places with 10 points from two games up for grabs, but more challenging will be the fact they have to go through Ampthill, Nottingham, Cornish Pirates and Hartpury College to get there.

It has been a disappointing season but at least Knights gave their home fans something to cheer with a 34-5 win over London Scottish at Castle Park.

Kerr’s tries were numbers two, four and five, the latter two coming after half-time and putting the result beyond doubt.

Ben Chapman got Fearn’s team off the mark and they led 12-5 at the break. Telusa Veianu scored after the break to put daylight between the two teams, and Alex Dolly – who has signed on for next season – added a sixth.

To have any chance of taking their challenge to the last game at home to Nottingham, Doncaster need a favour from bottom club Cambridge against Hartpury on May 2.
