Hill House girls crowned national hockey champions prior to pandemic

Hill House School’s under-13 girls were crowned national hockey champions in Birmingham prior to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Doncaster girls won five out of six matches and drew the other one at the national championships of the Society of Heads of Independent Schools.

They scored 14 goals in the process and conceded just one.

Key victories included a 3-0 win over Bedstone College from Shropshire, a close 2-1 victory over St Augustine’s from London and a superb 3-0 win over hosts King Edward’s Birmingham.

Bessacarr’s Erica Woodcock was named Player of the Tournament, with Tickhill’s Catriona Kersh winning Coaches Player of the Tournament.

James Ross, director of Hill House Hockey, said: “I am delighted with the effort and skill on display and am very proud of the way the girls played. This young team will continue to go far!”
