Doncaster Town ladies got their season off to a winning start at Anston.

Lesley Tew carried her bat for 51 to guide Town to a six wicket triumph.

The T20 clash was Doncaster’s opening match in the South Yorkshire section of the Yorkshire Women and Girls Cricket League, which also includes TIckhill, Sheffield Collegiate, Sheffield Transport and Whiston Parish Church.

Town captain Shell Styring used nine different bowlers as the hosts posted 120-1 from their allotted overs.

Rhianne Quigley bowled four overs for 29 in her final game for the club before moving abroad.

Tew and Styring got the reply off to a good start, sharing a stand of 66 before Styring was run out for 37.

Town lost three further wickets but, with a close finish brewing, Tew and Paige Taylor both hit important boundaries to claim victory.

Doncaster travel to Tickhill on Sunday (9.30am).
