Doncaster RLFC show encouraging signs ahead of West Wales Raiders clash

Richard Horne is confident results will follow if Doncaster RLFC continue to show the kind of improvement they displayed against Rochdale Hornets.

Following a disappointing opening round defeat at Keighley, the Dons produced a must-improved display to win a hard fought clash 30-22 at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Oliver Greensmith, on loan from Wakefield Trinity, marked his senior debut with two tries and Matty Beharrell produced an impressive kicking display.

"Credit to the lads, they worked hard for each other and managed to grind out a result in the end,” said Horne, following last weekend’s victory.

“It literally was a game of two halves. We dominated the first half and we did enough to put the scoreline out of their reach.

“In the second half they had all the possession but we scrambled well. So that’s encouraging for moving forward into the season.

“It gives us some areas again to work on for the West Wales game.

“We’re not expecting everything to be perfect but what we do focus on we want to see those improvements because if we do that we know the results will come.”

The Dons will welcome fans back to the Keepmoat Stadium this weekend.

"We’re looking forward to having them back,” said Horne. "They’ve been great through the pandemic, supporting the club.

"It’ll be great for the boys, it’ll give them a lift.”
