Doncaster RLFC will be hoping it’s third time lucky when they take on North Wales Crusaders for a place in the Betfred Championship.

Richard Horne’s Dons have lost in the League One play-off final two years running but head into Sunday’s clash with home advantage.

Dons are expected to be cheered on by a crowd of around 2,000 at the Eco-Power Stadium as they aim to end their eight-year exile from the second tier of rugby league in England.

Dons v North Wales Crusaders

Dons penalty converted

Connor Robinson makes it 8-0 with a straightforward kick from underneath the posts following a late tackle.

Dons are almost in again after a grubber kick throws Crusaders off guard before the ball is knocked on.

Connor Robinson scores an excellent conversion despite the windy conditions, kicking the ball over from a tight angle on the far side.

First score goes to the hosts after Mahe Fonua bundles the ball over the line after the first bit of pressure from either side.

Crusaders force a knock-on inside the Dons half. Both sides exchanging territory in the opening stages but no real pressure on either try line yet.

Great reception for the Dons, plenty of colour in the East Stand, which looks pretty full.

It all comes down to this

After that confusing play-off structure, we can confirm whoever wins today will be promoted to the Betfred Championship.

It could be the end of an eight-year exile for Dons, or nine in the case of Crusaders, who recovered from losing their first six matches of the season to secure the final play-off spot on the last day of the regular season.

They have had to win three games since to get to this point, while Doncaster were able to enjoy a free weekend last weekend following their resounding win over Hunslet one week previously.

As far as previous meetings go, Dons beat Crusaders 30-16 back in Round 3 but lost 28-22 when the sides met more recently last month.
