The 36-year-old Scot has hung up his boots to focus on his role as the club’s head of strength and conditioning.

Flockhart joined Knights in 2010 and was a mainstay of the team that came within touching distance of reaching the Premiership in 2016.

He surpassed Rob Liley’s record of 1,032 points, which had stood for more than a decade, at the turn of 2017.

According to Statbunker, Flockhart played 214 games for Doncaster, scored 49 tries, 244 conversions, 189 penalties and amassed 1300 points.

"I spoke to a few past players when I decided to hang up the boots and I had a mixed response to be honest," Flockhart told drfc.co.uk.

"Some on them said ‘continue on’ and some of them said ‘you’ll know if it’s the right time’.

"I’ve always been all-in with it and I want to be able to give it everything.

"With the new squad this year, and how much I have to do strength and conditioning-wise, [this is what I’ve decided].

"If there wasn’t the talent that we’ve got I might have considered things differently. But I really want to focus my attention because I feel that is the best thing for the squad.

"I’m going to really miss playing because it’s been my life for so long but at some point I knew this time was going to come.

"During the time [I was thinking about this] I felt a bit gutted I wasn’t going to be able to run out on the pitch with my kids but a lot of people are losing a lot of things at this time and I just feel lucky for the time I’ve had already.”
