The 13-year-old, from Conisbrough, was competing in his first ever world ranking event and only lost to a seasoned Spanish international.

Mexborough Academy pupil Lambert, who is a two-time British champion, hopes to be selected to represent Great Britain in the European Championships at the end of the year.

The Storm Taekwondo member, sponsored by First Aid Doncaster and Taylor Wimpey, has recently started training with GB Cadets in Manchester.

“He started training at the age of five, gained his black belt at seven and he is now black belt 3rd Dan,” said his father Ross.

“His goals are very simple - Europeans, then Worlds, and then Olympics.

“Most of all he hopes to be a full time member of the GB Academy.

“However, it’s very difficult without the correct funding at this level.”
