YOU can sign for Doncaster Rovers - and help the club and good causes in the process

The chance to sign a one-year contract for Doncaster Rovers is one of the once-in-a-lifetime experiences that have been put up for auction to raise funds for the club and local good causes.

With Rovers and fellow Club Doncaster group members the Dons and the Belles denied their usual income streams during the coronavirus pandemic, the clubs have devised a novel way to raise funds.

And proceeds will also go to local causes that are combating Covid-19 and its effects on everyday life.

The headline item up for auction is the opportunity to become a member of Darren Moore’s first team squad.

This includes being collected and driven to meet Moore for lunch, signing a mock one-year contract, take part in a photoshoot and a press conference, feature on the team photo and be listed on the back of the matchday programme with an official squad number.

Bidding for this item starts at £525. The auction for this, and all other items, closes on May 9.

Moore said: “This is a difficult time for everyone and while there is certainly more to life than our beautiful game, not having football to serve as a welcome distraction is affecting us all.

“The players are absolutely itching to help in any way they can, and after discussions among the first-team and staff at the club we wanted to provide some really special experiences that supporters can bid for.

“The hope is that with the funds raised we can alleviate some of the financial burden that the club is currently facing, but also support some of the frontline efforts to combat the coronavirus in Doncaster.”

Another major item is the chance to be a Rovers player for a day - travelling with the team to an away friendly, being involved in the dressing room and the pre-match warm-up and watching the match from the bench.

Other items include the chance to watch the team train, breakfast with Moore, joining in training for a day, play golf with two first team players and media experiences.

There are also matchday experiences with Dons head coach Richard Horne and Belles boss Andy Butler.
