Former Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Dave Edwards headed home the winner 14 minutes from time to secure Town’s first League One victory since December 21.

And Ricketts said he believed it was no more than his side deserved against a Rovers outfit looking to mount a play-off charge as the season edges ever closer to a fascinating climax. “We want to win every game we go into and it has been great to have a full week to prepare,” said Ricketts. “The players have continually shown the same grit and determination through this rough run and they got their rewards for it.”

“We are a good side and were just going through a sticky patch. We couldn't get the results we wanted, performances were ok but we didn't have that edge to our game.

“Today we fought and pushed a decent side back into their half - pressure told in the end.”

Darren Moore’s side were unable to breakdown a resolute Town defence marshalled superbly by in-form goalkeeper Max O’Leary, who pulled off fine saves to deny Ben Whiteman and Cameron John and earn praise from his manager.

“You couldn't accuse anyone of not trying or not putting their bodies on the line - the players have done that all season,” said Ricketts.

“Max O’Leary made a number of good saves this year and today was no different.”
