‘Very underwhelming’, ‘Give him time’: Doncaster Rovers fans react to Danny Schofield’s appointment as boss

Schofield was confirmed as Gary McSheffrey’s replacement on a one-year rolling contract on Thursday, having presided over an ill-fated 69 days in charge of Huddersfield Town earlier this season.

The 42-year-old, who was born and raised in Hexthorpe, won just one of his nine games in charge before he was dismissed.

On Twitter, @LPlatten wrote: “I’ll back him. But it’s not a great move, hope I end up eating my words like. Very underwhelming.”

@JonathanDRFC posted: “You can’t judge on 9 games, so the worst we can throw at the #DRFC Schofield appointment is that he’s unproven.

"That’s a risk, but what if the plan is to catch someone on the way up rather than on the way down? It won’t always work, but every successful manager started somewhere.”

Schofield’s coaching resume includes stints at Barnsley, Leeds United and Middlesbrough.

He also managed Huddersfield’s B team and under-19s before getting the top job.
