The Aston Villa loanee announced himself onto the scene at Rovers with a brace on his debut in the demolition of Tranmere Rovers.

And he was the shining light in last weekend’s defeat at Shrewsbury Town.

But the 18-year-old pointed to trickier tests against Rochdale and Gillingham - the latter of which when Rovers were down to ten men - as the games that have provided the biggest lessons as he takes his first steps in senior football.

“Either Rochdale or Gillingham, they stand out,” he said.

“With the game at Tranmere, we had most of the ball which was quite good for me being a midfield player.

“Rochdale, it was quite different. They had most of the ball so we had to feed off scraps.

“Gillingham, we were 1-0 up and down to ten me so it was about sitting back and countering against them.”

In terms of what have been the biggest lessons so far for the highly-rated midfielder, Ramsey says it has been settling into the more combative side of the game.

He said: “It’s been picking up second balls and being more aggressive in midfield, using my body more.

“It’s different from being back at Villa.

“It’s much more physical and it’s also 24-7. When you’re playing U23 games it can be stop-start physically.

“In this league it’s every game and every minute.”
