The Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee cited Reece James as one of the most helpful figures at Rovers during his adaptation into the left back position.

As he prepares to stand in for James for around a month as he recovers from a severe laceration to his shin, John is grateful for the assistance his fellow defender has provided in helping him settle into the position.

“Me and Reece are good on and off the pitch, we have a good bond,” John said.

“I can go to Reece and he will help me out. And visa versa. We just bounce ideas off each other.

“We all see different pictures. What I might see, he might not and I can help him and the other way around.

“I talk to Jamo all the time. I talk to the gaffer and Jamie Smith [assistant manager].

“It’s all been helpful and I’m just getting used to the chopping and changing.

“You’ve just got to get used to it and once I do I’ll be fine.”

Since Christmas, and prior to James’ injury on Tuesday night, the left back role had passed between the two regularly.

Boss Darren Moore sets out his team with the opposition in mind and feels there are games where centre half John offers more defensive solidity than out-and-out full back James.

John feels that both he and James offer varying attributes in the role but that the differences are minimal.

“It’s probably me offering a bit more defensively out of the two,” he said. “Reece offers more going forward.

“I wouldn’t say I’m that far behind. There are little differences here and there.

“Probably where I might be a bit more help in the defensive side, being a bit taller, Reece might help more in the attacking side.

“It’s not as if there are massive gaps where we offer different things but I think we benefit and help the team in our individual ways.”
