Rovers League: Askern Miners keep pressure on Rossington Main

Askern Miners remain hard on the heels of Doncaster Rovers Saturday League Premier Division leaders Rossington Main Reserves following a 3-0 win over Yorkshire Main.

Goals from Chris Hancock, Alex Irwin and Lewis Tinsley earned Askern victory on Friday night and briefly put them top of the table.

However, their stay at the summit lasted less than 24 hours as Rossington returned to the top with a 7-0 victory at Epworth Town Colts Blues.

Jason Kearsley, Jordan Buckham and Brad Poteray each scored twice and Jack Gilkes was also on target.

Askern are a point adrift but have played two games fewer than Rossington.

Dearne and District are in third place after a 3-2 home win over Armthorpe Welfare Development.

Armthorpe had led 2-0 after goals from Ben Wilkinson and Lee McFadden but Nick Guest struck twice for Dearne and Hayden Barnett netted the winner.

GCT Doncaster moved up to fourth after a 4-2 win at Bessacarr Development. Shaun Mundy bagged a brace and there was one apiece for both Joel and Hayden Tomlinson for GCT, while Ronin Herrington replied twice for the hosts.

Denaby United’s game at bottom club ISG was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Maltby Juniors have designs on completing the Division One season with a perfect record after a 5-2 win at South Park Rangers made it 19 wins from 19 games.

Shaun Edwards (2), Devon Stead, Joe McGuinness and Ryan Smyth were on target for the runaway leaders, while Callum Spragg and Gav Higgins replied for Rangers.

AFC Bentley Development remain in second spot but their promotion hopes were dealt a hammer blow as they suffered a surprise 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Tickhill Juniors.

Dom Hunston, Kyle Pashley, Liam Cross and Ally Churchill were on the scoresheet for Tickhill, whose run of three successive victories has seen them surge up to sixth and away from the lower reaches of the division. Josh Roberts scored Bentley’s consolation effort.

Third-placed Sprotbrough Country Club were 3-1 winners against GCT Doncaster A thanks to goals from Jack Robson, Frankie Evans and Charlie Critchley. Ede Istavan replied for GCT.

St Joseph’s Worksop made it five wins on the bounce as they beat Armthorpe Rovers 10-0 – the second time this season they have scored ten. Taylor Thackery claimed a hat trick, Max Sykes scored twice and there were further goals for Luke Morris, Marley Staveley, Kiaran Smith and Daniel Scott as the Worksop side, who have seven or more games in hand on the teams above them, moved up to fourth.

Askern Miners Development were comfortable 7-0 winners over Doncaster Eagles courtesy of goals from Coby Harvey (2), Marcus Goodwin, Mark Wilkinson, Kyle Carrick, Kyle Embury and Nathan Redmile.

Adwick Park Foresters halted a run of nine defeats with a 4-2 win over Epworth Town Colts Development, while Doncaster Town ended a three-game losing sequence with a 3-2 win over Dearne & District Development.
