Rovers League: Askern Miners close the gap on leaders Rossington Main Reserves

Askern Miners closed the gap on Doncaster Rovers Saturday League Premier Division leaders Rossington Main Reserves with a dramatic 4-3 win over Bessacarr Development.

Goals Sam Corner (2) and Michael Attard had the Miners firmly in the driving seat but Bessacarr fought back to level with strikes from Ronin Hetherington (2) and Alistair Docherty.

Attard netted the decisive seventh goal of the game to move Miners to within four points of Rossington, who had a blank weekend.

Askern also have two games in hand on the leaders.

Denaby United beat GCT Doncaster B 6-1 to move up to third in the table.

GCT actually opened the scoring with an Alex Rennie penalty but Ashley Cantrill soon levelled matters and United then took control with goals from Aiden Oakley (2), Steve Ellor (2) and Luke Smith.

Armthorpe Welfare Development were 4-1 winners at home to Epworth Town Colts Blues.

Jamie Cook bagged a pair and there were further goals from Adam Baskerville and Brad McFadden.

Bawtry Town suffered a 7-0 home defeat to Dearne & District. St Kitts and Nevis international Zeph Thomas and Rowan Briscoe both scored twice for the visitors with Nick Guest, Chris Dickman and Danny Ravenscroft also on the scoresheet.

It was landlords versus tenants at the Welfare in Edlington as Yorkshire Main beat bottom of the table ISG Doncaster 3-0 with goals from Danny Bell (2) and Ash Evans.

Division One leaders Maltby Juniors made it 16 wins from 16 games with a 6-3 victory over AFC Doncaster Town.

Adam Hallsworth claimed a hat trick with Devon Stead (2) and Shawn Edwards also nettings.

Second-placed AFC Bentley beat Tickhill Juniors 2-1 thanks to a Zach Waller brace.

The biggest win of the day was a 10-0 success for St Josephs Worksop over Armthorpe Rovers. Taylor Thackery scored four, Kian Smith bagged a hat trick, Max Sykes netted twice and Luke Morris also found the net.

Third-placed Sprotbrough Country Club maintained their promotion bid with a 3-0 win at South Park Rangers with Sam Isle, Tucker Watson and Frankie Evans on target.

GCT Doncaster A were 7-1 winners over Doncaster Eagles.

Berkim Recinda bagged a hat trick and there were goals from Nathan Booth, Josh Challenor, Ede Istavan and Lewis Jackson.

Callum Spencer scored twice in Dearne & District Development’s 2-1 win over Adwick Park Foresters. Connor Moore replied for Adwick.

Askern Miners won 3-1 at Epworth Town Colts Development.
