Rival League One chairman promises vengeance against Doncaster Rovers and rest of League One next season is 19/20 campaign is curtailed

MacAnthony is convinced attempts to see the current season continued on the pitch, or proposals that offer a greater number of clubs the chance to win promotion, will not be successful when EFL clubs vote on Tuesday.

The EFL’s own proposal is tipped to gain the requisite support - which will see final placings decided on a points per game calculation, with automatic promotion, relegation and a four team play-off campaign taking place as normal in each division.

That would see MacAnthony’s club drop out of the League One play-off places - hence his strong desire for an alternative.

Speaking on his podcast ‘Hard Truth’, MacAnthony has promised that Posh will approach the 2020/21 with added fire due to their perceived injustice.

“When we come back we have to come back with absolute passion and desire,” he said.

“We have to have the drive over the injustice. We have the largest chip you’ve ever seen on our shoulder.

“For me it’s about vengeance.

“We’ve got to put a promotion challenge together.

“We’ve got to come back from this as a football club that’s together, that’s united, all those cliches.

“I don’t care whether you work in this ticket office, whether you cut our grass, whether you score 25 goals - we collectively together as a football club have to right this injustice.

“We have to right this wrong.”

MacAnthony also called upon the EFL to show leadership over the start of the 20/21 season - with a suggested Sepember 30 start - and not put it to a vote of the clubs.

He said: “We need the EFL to be strong. We need to see the EFl come out and say September 30, these are your fixtures, this is what is going to happen. This is when you’re back playing. This is when you’re going to do it.

“We need guidance from above. We need leadership.”
