Doncaster Rovers will want to put the embarrassment of their FA Cup exit behind them when they return to League Two action against Grimsby Town.

Rovers were dumped out of the competition at the first-round stage at the hands of non-league King's Lynn last weekend.

Meanwhile, their next opponents thrashed League One leaders Plymouth Argyle 5-1 to progress to round two.

Three points at Blundell Park could move Doncaster level on points with Carlisle United in the final play-off spot.

Oh I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside

We’ll see if the 1,200 or so Doncaster fans travelling today are humming that one at full time.

Doncaster are back to the bread and butter this afternoon following last weekend’s miserable FA Cup exit. It feels like a little while ago now, but their last match in the league was the deserved 1-0 win over Gillingham a fortnight ago.

As far as league form goes, that was their first win in six. Things haven’t been great - far from it - but remember there were some promising signs of improvement in Schofield’s first three games in charge.

Today’s hosts followed up their impressive FA Cup with by beating Manchester City Under-21s on penalties to progress to the Papa Johns Trophy knockout stages on Wednesday. While their league form has been mixed, they will surely be heading into this derby of sorts full of confidence.
