Doncaster announced free agent Westbrooke had joined until the end of the season on Friday. The midfielder left League One outfit Bristol Rovers in January.
Season-ending injuries to Charlie Lakin and Harrison Biggins had left the club’s head coach Danny Schofield short of options in the middle of the park.
Westbrooke will compete with Ben Close and Liam Ravenhill for a starting spot.

Doncaster Rovers v Northampton Town
Key Events
- Fourth-placed Northampton are unbeaten in six matches
- Doncaster are eight points off the play-offs with one win in seven games
- Several first-team players unavailable to Danny Schofield due to injury
Chance for Kyle Hurst
Luke Molyneux finds the run of Hurst with a nice through ball. He opts to shoot with Kieran Agard showing for the ball, but it’s straight at Lee Burge.
GOAL - it’s 2-0
Another error from Mitchell, whose clearance hits Hoskins, who drills it at the keeper with the striker then converting the rebound.
Chance!
Todd Miller at the heart of it as he wins the ball back high and feeds Charlie Seaman, who sees a shot blocked. Rebound falls to Miller whose effort is deflected wide.
Corner is then fired over by Lavery. Good start from Rovers.
HT 1-0 Northampton
Another error for the goal and some boos at the break.
Conceding has forced Doncaster to attack in the first period and while they’ve had little success in front of goal they are still in with a chance of getting something from this game.
Northamton are second in the live table but are happy to sit back, which is allowing Doncaster a chance to have a go at them. More quality needed after the break (not the first time we’ve said that this season). The only trouble is Rovers look shot to pieces in terms of confidence and incapable of doing what Schofield wants them to with the ball.
Four minutes added on
Mitchell has just saved from Mitch Pinnock after Kyle Hurst gave the ball to the Northampton man while trying to clear.
Chance!
Seaman has switched from left to right and fires in a lovely low cross that just evades a sliding Kyle Hurst.
