Doncaster Rovers take on York City in their latest pre-season friendly tonight.

Grant McCann’s side will be looking to make it three wins from three warm-up games on their first visit to the LNER Community Stadium.

Their National League opponents will provide a sterner test than Doncaster’s previous opponents, however, having held Middlesbrough to a 0-0 draw on Saturday.

York City v Doncaster Rovers

Key Events

  • Rovers have won both of their two warm-up friendlies so far
  • National League York held Middlesbrough to a 0-0 draw on Saturday

Just wide from Wood

He meets Sotona’s free-kick delivery but can’t quite guide it goalwards. First chance for some time for Doncaster.

James Maxwell and Kyle Hurst have both been caught offside several times in this half, leading to a breakdown in several attacks. Sloppy from both.

Doncaster still in a battle

York have battled well so far and wrestle the ball from George Broadbent to launch another attack, which is thwarted before they can get a shot away. This is a good test for Doncaster. Far from pretty, and they’re definitely not getting their own way, but better than a walkover.

Another York booking

Sam Sanders brings down Sotona with the winger getting away from him fast. York struggling to deal with his pace and trickery at times.

Better from Doncaster

A nice period of possession for the visitors, which they probably needed after being under the cosh for a few minutes. Deji Sotona at the heart of it, he’s probably been their best outlet this half.

Another save from Lawlor

This time at the far post to keep out a close-range effort from a deep cross. York on top as it stands.

James Maxwell gets away with one

The left-back appears to handle a long ball forward from a goal-kick when he was the last man for Doncaster with a York attacker otherwise through on goal.

Ref gives a free-kick to Doncaster, strangely.

Good saves from Lawlor

Hurst is robbed of possession in his own half, allowing York to break into the box and get a shot at goal, which Lawlor beats away. Keeper is then on hand to stop another strike at goal in the next passage of play.

Tommy Rowe the victim of a bad tackle on the halfway line that had the home fans gasping. Scott Burgess was the offender.
