So it’s an own goal and a sublime Tyreece John-Jules chip that have done the business for Rovers this afternoon.

But there was also a fully professional, intelligent and composed team performance in there too to ensure they maintained a strong grip on proceedings against ten men.

Though we never really got to see what Darren Moore’s positional tinkering would have delivered, we saw positive signs of patience, composure and control, which have been lacking in sections of recent performances.

It gets them back on track on what always looked like being a difficult afternoon and now they have a rare full week to prepare for the next one.

Ben Whiteman stutters his run and then sees his spot kick saved by Steve Arnold.

It was handball after all!

The referee stopped play and consulted with the assistant before pointing the spot.

Ben Whiteman to take

Rovers broke from half way with Ben Whiteman feeding James Coppinger. Coppinger shaped to shoot and it was blocked on the goalline, with Rovers players appealing for a handball.

The hosts are enjoying a flurry of possession at the minute and getting balls into the box but they’re struggling for chances.

Fejiri Okenabirhie receives a pass from Ben Whiteman, turns and fires low from the edge of the box but it’s a simple take for the goalkeeper.

Sam Hoskins fires on goal from distance for Northampton and it drifts narrowly wide.

Tyreece John-Jules brings down a deep cross from Josh Sims , turns and drills a fine effort on goal which Steve Arnold parries over his bar.

An own goal sees Rovers double their advantage!

Reece James curled in a wonderful cross, looking for Tyreece John-Jules. It flew through to the back post and, with Joe Wright lurking, it was turned over the line by Michael Harriman.
