Another rapid break from Rovers as Josh Sims cuts out a pass deep inside his own half. He races deep into Gillingham territory and squares to Ben Whiteman. The skipper passes into the box for Taylor Richards, who drills straight at the Gillingham keeper

4.11 GGGGGOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL!!!!! ROVERS!!

BRAD HALLIDAY!

And that is a response.

Ben Whiteman cut out a pass deep in his own half and carried the ball forward. He fed Tyreece John-Jules on the left with the striker then finding the skipper in space on the edge of the box. Whiteman stabbed a first time effort on goal which Jack Bonham got a hand to but Halliday followed in and smashed a shot into the top corner from close range.

Kyle Dempsey fires the visitors level.

We said the one goal advantage was always fragile.

Dempsey cuts across the pitch into space and drills a low effort out of reach of Joe Lumley and into the bottom corner.

Rovers won the ball back on the edge of the area with Ben Whiteman playing forward to Josh Sims. The winger carried the ball forward and laid off to Tyreece John-Jules who cut inside and worked space for a shot only to scuff his effort wide.

Gillingham have seen more of the ball in the opening five minutes of the half than they seemed to in the first 45 minutes of the game.

Gillingham have thrown on two subs at the break.

Jacob Mellis has replaced John Akinde while Zech Medley is on for Alex MacDonald.

That was a cracking half of football from a Rovers perspective.

They met the challenge of breaking down Gillingham head on, producing their best opening half hour of a match for some time.

Superb movement, understanding and fluidity saw them open up spaces and drag Gillingham out of shape to work several openings.

And Reece James took his goal superbly, after a great run from deep to strike.

Gillingham showed signs of life after falling behind and threatened from a couple of set pieces, demonstrating who fragile the single goal lead is.

But it’s so far, so good from a Rovers perspective after a really pleasing opening half.

3.47 That’s the break

And Rovers are ahead at half time

Josh Sims plays a low ball into the box which Taylor Richards latches onto and produces a brilliant turn to beat his man. He fires a shot which is diverted over the bar by the goalkeeper.

From the subsequent corner, Tom Anderson heads over.
