Goals in either half from Tommy Rowe and Josh Martin secured a 2-0 win and earned Rovers their first victory in seven games.
The result relegated bottom side Crewe and reduced the gap between Rovers and safety to five points.
Here is how we rated Rovers’ individual performances. Let us know your thoughts on Twitter @FreePressRovers.
5. Tommy Rowe 7
A determined, authoritative display from left back. Crowned it with a good strike from distance to open the scoring. Photo: AHPIX Ltd
6. John Bostock 7
A calming influence in the middle of the park. Looked after the ball and kept things simple as Rovers' most experienced players came to the fore. Photo: AHPIX Ltd
7. Adam Clayton 8
Offered plenty of know-how in his best performance in a Rovers shirt to date. He read the game very well, his positional play was excellent and he was a vocal presence in terms of organising and cajoling his teammates. Photo: Liam Ford/AHPIX LTD
8. Matt Smith 7
Enjoyed the freedom of playing ahead of Bostock and Clayton. Got into some good areas, covered plenty of ground and won possession back on numerous occasions. Photo: AHPIX Ltd
