It brought to an end Rovers’ five game search for a league win and saw them become the first side since the opening day of the season to beat Posh at London Road.

Darren Moore made three changes to the side that drew with Accrington Stanley. James Coppinger, Reece James and Kwame Thomas all dropped to the bench with Ben Whiteman, Niall Ennis and Joe Wright coming in.

The game began at a frantic pace with both sides pushing forward well.

Marcus Maddision curled narrowly wide from the edge of the box after a Joe Wright pass was cut out.

Rovers took the lead on 17 minutes with their first effort on goal.

Ben Sheaf laid a pass inside to Sadlier who galloped forward and thrashed a low effort into the bottom corner from 25 yards.

Peterborough looked dangerous on the ball but found themselves rebuffed at each turn by an organised Rovers defence, giving them few clear cut opportunities on goal.

Rovers could have doubled their lead on the half hour but Sadlier failed to get a touch on a Sheaf cross when in space at the back post.

Jon Taylor – a threat throughout the opening period for Rovers – almost caught out Frankie Kent a the back for Posh as he dallied in the box

Ivan Toney looped a header on goal but Seny Dieng set himself well to claim.

Tom Anderson twice got Rovers out of jail in quick succession. First he cleared out after Toney kept a deep free kick in and then headed off the line from the subsequent corner with a looping header threatening to drop in.

Rovers doubled their advantage on the hour when he met a near post corner from Taylor and sidefooted in.

And they completed the rout John raced forward into space on the left and cut inside for Whiteman, who worked the ball onto his left foot and curled in to the far corner from 25 yards.

Peterborough continued to push forward and Seny Dieng produced a brilliant reaction save to tip away a header from Toney.
