Non-league: Rossington Main create history with memorable FA Vase win

Rossington Main are into the third round proper of the FA Vase for the first time in the club's 106-year history.

They secured a thrilling win in round two last weekend away at Carlisle City, coming from 2-0 down in normal time - goals from Dylan Mantle and Archie Micklewaite - to force penalties.

And Greg Young's side then came out on top in the shoot-out, winning 6-5 to spark scenes of jubilation. The win means Main's coffers have been boosted to the tune of £3,000 with this particular cup run - not to mention a bumper payday when over 1,400 came through the turnstiles for the FA Cup qualifier with FC United of Manchester.

They will be at home to West Didsbury and Chorlton in round three, with the tie set to be played on Saturday, December 6.

Elsewhere, in NCEL Division One Club Thorne Colliery played out a thrilling 3-3 draw away at South Leeds. Louis Seddons, Marc Newsham and Luke Williams were on the scoresheet for Thorne, who climbed to seventh.

Doncaster City were beaten 2-1 at home by Appleby Frodingham, whilst Armthorpe Welfare were not in action at the weekend. Those two meet in the 'Church Street derby' next Saturday.
