That day saw their relegation confirmed after a miserable season. A low-key 1-1 draw against Oxford United ended a five-year stay in English football's third tier.
Gary McSheffrey's side earned a point when Josh Martin's goal cancelled out Billy Bodin's opener but it couldn't prevent the drop. Thankfully, happier times are here for Rovers with Grant McCann having led them back to League One thanks to a superb 2024-25 title-winning campaign. Anticipation is in the air, with the fixtures for the new season out in just a couple of days' time.
Here though, we look at the line-up from that fateful day at the Kassam - with not one player who featured in that game still at the club.

9. Joe Dodoo
Dodoo joined Rovers in September 2021 and arrived with some pedigree having represented Rangers and Leicester among others, but endured a miserable time. He scored just four in 33 league games and was released in the summer after relegation. Now a free agent having been released by Solihull Moors. Photo: Julian Finney

10. Josh Martin
Scored four goals in 20 appearances in a loan spell from Norwich in the second half of the 2021-22 campaign. Has been about since then, representing Barnsley, Portsmouth, Notts County and Newport. A free agent after Newport released him this summer. Photo: HOWARD ROE

11. Reo Griffiths
Joined Rovers for an undisclosed fee from French side Lyon but made hardly any impression. The former Tottenham Hotspur youngster, who represented England at youth level, scored just twice in 21 outings and Grant McCann decided to tear up his contract in November 2023. Griffiths is now at American club Portland Timbers. Photo: Howard Roe

12. Mipo Odubeko
West Ham loanee notched two goals in 16 outings in the second half of the season for Rovers. After returning to the Hammers he was loaned out to Port Vale before making a move abroad to Portuguese side Maritimo. He came back to the UK in 2024, joining Fleetwood and is now back in his native Ireland at Shelbourne. Photo: Howard Roe
