There was not expected to be a great deal of business at the club on February 1 and the chances of anything being completed looks less and less likely with each passing hour.

Rovers have been offered players over the last 24 hours but so far there has been nothing to pique their interest sufficiently into making moves.

We have seen in previous windows that opportunities can be spotted and acted upon at the 11th hour, so a late, late deal cannot be ruled out entirely.

On the departures front, there is the possibility that one fringe player could depart but the interest in the last few days has not been so strong as to suggest a deal could be done today.

A League Two side had enquired about the player’s services over the last week but their interest appears to have cooled.

The National League could be a possible destination for the player, but clubs in the fifth tier are not bound by the same transfer deadline so a deal could happen at a later date. There also remains uncertainty about this season in the National League with clubs set to vote on how to proceed in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Joe Wright has been a talking point over the last few days due to reports that Preston North End were weighing up a move for the defender, who will reach the end of his current contract in the summer.

But Rovers have still not received any contact from the Lancashire side - as of lunchtime on Monday. Tentative enquiries would typically had been made by this stage were a club to be keen on completing a move.

Preston are poised to confirm they have sold defender Ben Davies to Liverpool, while chairman Peter Risdale has stated the Lilywhites will be taking a youngster on loan from the reigning Premier League champions as part of the deal – expected to be Sepp van den Berg.

North End have also been linked with Stoke City defender Liam Lindsay.
