McCann is set to return with his Hull City side for a meeting of promotion rivals, 20 months on after he abruptly left Rovers for the Tigers.

The Northern Irishman says he looks back on his time at Rovers fondly but is only focused on getting an important win in the promotion race.

“I had a tremendous year at Doncaster,” he said.

“I enjoyed every single minute of it, with the players, with the staff, with the owners – brilliant people – chief executive Gavin Baldwin, the secretary Mary Lally. Tremendous people at that football club and also the fans.

“But I’m here now. This is just another game for me. It’s another game where we want to take the three points if we can.”

Hull ended a three-game winless run by thumping Wigan 5-0 in midweek - which included a hat trick from former Rovers loanee Mallik Wilks.

Meanwhile Rovers suffered a third straight defeat for the first time this season, off the back of a run of nine wins in ten.

McCann is expecting a tough test at the Keepmoat and says his side will be fully aware of the challenges they will face this afternoon.

He said: “They’ve got good players right through the team.

“That’s the reason they’re in the position they’re in.

“Defensively, they’re good. They don’t concede many goals and haven’t this season.

“Midfield, they’ve got a variety of different options. They’ve got five or six players who can play in there.

“In the forward areas, they’ve recruited as well. Josh Sims has come back from Southampton and is a good player, Jon Taylor I played with at Peterborough and Omar Bogle I signed for Peterborough and brought him in on loan.

“There’s quite a variety of threats they’ve got. We know about them.

“Our job is to make sure we go and perform and get our own performance right to try and win the game.”

Hull could see Gavin Whyte, Tom Eaves and Callum Jones return from injury this weekend.
