The on loan Southampton winger has quickly established himself as a fan favourite at the Keepmoat after a brilliant first week during which he picked up three assists and his first senior goal in English football.

“It’s been a great reaction,” he told the Free Press.

“I’m glad they’ve enjoyed my performances so far.

“It’s a shame they’re not able to come into stadiums but unfortunately it’s something we’ve got to live with for now.

“I’ve really enjoyed it so far and hopefully the fans can keep seeing some good performances.”

On his impact following his deadline day arrival from Southampton, Sims believes he has been able to showcase his growing experience as an attacking player.

“I just try to find myself in good positions and try to be hard to mark rather than sticking next to defenders,” he said.

“As I’ve grown older I think I’ve found myself being able to find good positions, which is just with experience I guess.

“But it’s been enjoyable so far.”

Given his aggressive, attacking style it is somewhat surprising that Sims’ only previous senior goal came during his loan spell with New York Red Bulls.

But he feels he has needed to establish himself in a side with regular game time to allow the goals to flow.

“If you look at it on paper it seems like I’ve played a lot but there were a lot of sub appearances, ten or 15 minutes at the end of games,” he said.

“For me personally, I needed a run of games to get match fit.

“It’s difficult coming on at the end of games and trying to create things.

“For me it was just about needing to get into the side, getting fit and having a run of games under my belt.

“I knew the goal would come.

“Hopefully I can start pushing on now to create and score more goals.

“I know I’ve only been here a short amount of time but I feel comfortable in this team.

“The boys have been welcoming. I’ve enjoyed it so far so hopefully I can kick on.”
