After being in a great position earlier in the year, a run of nine defeats in 14 games has seen Rovers drop out of the top six as the final straight comes into view.

Monday’s abject defeat at Bristol Rovers left Doncaster in tenth place, five points adrift of sixth-placed Lincoln City with nine games left to play.

The bookies now price Rovers up at 6/1 to finish in the top six.

With Hull City, Peterborough United and Sunderland now all but guaranteed the minimum of a shot at the play-offs, the bookies think Portsmouth (1/7), Blackpool (1/6) and Lincoln (4/11) will complete the top six.

Fourth-placed Portsmouth have won four on the bounce under new boss Danny Cowley and Blackpool, in fifth, are the form team in the division over the last six games.

Lincoln are experiencing a drop in form not too dissimilar to Rovers but the bookies rate Ipswich and Charlton, who are three points behind the Imps, at 5/2 and 7/2 respectively to break into the top six.

Oxford United (14/1), Crewe (16/1), Accrington Stanley (18/1), Gillingham (25/1) and MK Dons (28/1) would need to finish the season in brilliant form to extend their seasons.
