'He's getting just rewards' - Darren Moore on why Wolves loanee Niall Ennis is scoring more goals for Doncaster Rovers

The Wolverhampton Wanderers striker has been one of Rovers’ top performers throughout his loan spell, with his tremendous workrate and battling endeavour seeing him make impressive contributions.

But since the turn of the year he has seen an undoubted upturn in threat in front of goal - and not just through his improving goalscoring record.

Rovers boss Darren Moore puts his improvement down to a range of factors, from understanding of the game to confidence and stronger physical attributes.

And Moore believes Ennis has shown himself at 19 to be more than capable of performing regularly at least League One level.

“Understanding the skills that he’s got and the attributes he’s got and getting himself into areas where he can use those,” he said. “And when he does use it, he’s been getting goals.

“That aside, it builds confidence, builds understanding that he can compete at this level and score goals.

“I believe he can compete and play at this level. And he should too.

“The big thing for Niall is consistency.

“He’s had a taste for hitting the back of the net which he’s why we brought him here.

“He’s another player that I plucked out of a development squad at Wolves. I thought that’s not the level for him now and I can give him a level here where he can play first team football.

“We’ve had to be patient with him. His body has got to a stage where it’s probably more robust now. The players have got to understand that side of it too.

“Now he’s getting his just rewards for his hard work and determination and credit to him.

“His work rate and the job that he does for the team is very important for us.

“For one of 19, he’s coming along nicely.

“All the loan players here, when they do return to their football clubs, all of those clubs will see a better player.”
