Funds tight at Doncaster Rovers as Darren Moore learns of resources for transfer window

Moore met with the Rovers board on Thursday to hear of what funds will be at his disposal next month, and also to present his own plans for the window.

And he learned that beyond pressing issues such as the futures of injured duo Josh Sims and Rayhaan Tulloch and the goalkeeping situation at the club, it will be a case of one out, one in if he wishes to carry out any further business.

“Because of the Covid restrictions there’s not really any funds to add in that capacity,” Moore said.

“It will be a case of one out to get one in, if that is the case.

“If someone goes out, it means that someone could come in.

“We know what we’ve got to work with, we know where we’re going and what we need to do in terms of the window.

“There’s one or two things that we’ve got to look at. We’ve got to look at the issue with Josh, the issue with Rayhaan and the issue with the goalkeeping situation.

“Those are the bits we need to look at for this window ahead.”

Moore revealed he does not currently wish to move out any of his current squad, particularly with numbers tight during the most demanding of seasons.

“At the moment, no, because I need all the bodies I can get,” he said.

“I’m not about clearing out bodies because we’ve still got a fixture list ahead of us that we have to fulfil and see.

“For me now it’s about keeping the squad together, keeping them fit and keeping them right and prepared for the quick turnaround of games and the level we need to be performing at.”

Chief executive Gavin Baldwin told the Free Press last week that the board would be willing to back Moore with funds in January if Rovers remain in a strong position in League One heading into the New Year.

Rovers currently sit sixth in League One, four points off top spot with at least a game in hand over the sides above them.

Moore said the issue of incentivised extra funds had not been raised in the meeting and he preferred to focus on matters in his control.

“We’ll have to wait and see,” he said.

“What is the point in discussing that because of where we are now? You may argue we are in a good position, you may argue that we’re not.

“For me, as the manager, we’re just in the position we deserve to be in because of what we’ve done over time.

“We’ll just continue with that and just work with the facts.

“It’s about looking at the next game for me. It;s about working with the squad and keeping them improving and developing going ahead.

“As manager it is my job to keep the team’s focus on the next game.

“I know there is a transfer window coming up and when the time is right we will deal with that.”
