Ex-Doncaster Rovers man lands new managerial job with former Champions League winners

Former Doncaster Rovers player Habib Beye has landed the manager's job at French giants Marseille.

The ex-defender was part of the infamous 'Experiment' era at Rovers, playing 23 times in the 2011-12 Championship relegation season.

After he retired from football he went into punditry before eventually taking his hand at coaching. After success at lower league Red Star the former Senegal international landed the job at Rennes in January 2025. Earlier this month he was sacked with team sixth in Ligue 1.

Now, after just a few weeks in the wilderness, Beye has been named boss of former Champions League winners Marseille after Roberto de Zerbi's departure. Beye spent four seasons at Marseille as a player.

A Marseille statement said: "His deep attachment to Olympique de Marseille and his intimate knowledge of the environment in Marseille can be major assets in taking the club to the next step."

Beye's first game didn't go to plan, however, losing 2-0 to Brest.
