Epworth Town claim third straight win

The result is a third straight win for Town and sees them move to within six points of leaders Limestone Rangers.

Lewis Lightburn, Gary Moment and Matthew Muldoon were on target as Town outscored the relegation-threatened side to leave them battling for survival at the wrong end.

Epworth Town face league champions College Wanderers this weekend, who currently sit behind Epworth in fourth place.

Epworth Town Reserves also had an encouraging weekend as they recorded a 4-2 win over Barnetby United Reserves to move back to the top of Division Three.

They have played more games than many of their title rivals, but are well positioned to be in the promotion chase, as a Tom Appleby hat-trick sent them back to the top where they’ve spent much of the season.

Kevin Shelley was the man on hand for the other goal.

The Reserves have a crucial game this weekend when they take on Scotter United Reserves, who are currently second, one point behind Appleby’s men.

Westwoodside Rangers are among the sides chasing down Epworth Reserves in the race for Division Two, and they brushed aside bottom team Santon with a 9-1 result.

Declan Scott helped himself to four goals as Rangers stayed three points behind Town in fourth, as the top of the table battle continues to be a tight one.

Rangers are three points off the top, however they retain four games in hand on the league’s current leaders.

Harry Scott helped himself to a brace, with further goals from Michael Fenton, Kyle Blow and an own goal sealing the win. Jack Follows hit back for Santon.

Rangers also have a big game this weekend as they face off with Briggensians, a team who they have an identical league record with so far this season, and who will also be looking to continue a promotion push.

Misterton have been dragged into a relegation battle in Division Two after a fourth defeat in five games left them third from bottom.

Their 5-1 defeat at the hands of East Markham leaves them four points off the bottom of the league, having played two more games than bottom club Clarborough.

Seven points seperate six teams at the foot of the league in what looks set to be an intense battle for survival. Misterton’s next game is a tough assignment, as they host second-placed Notts Diagonals.

In Division Three, Owston Ferry showed why themselves and Walkeringham are seperated by only one point in the standings as they played out a 1-1 stalemate last Sunday.

The result leaves Owston comfortably in sixth in the league, 11 points off Kings Arms Reserves in second. Owston travel to ninth-placed Ropery Inn on Sunday, title-chasing Kings Arms are back in league action a week on Sunday when they face a potential title-decider against Black Horse.
