Harry Forrester has travelled to Glasgow in order to finalise a move to Rangers according to reports.

The Daily Record report the 24-year-old will become Mark Warburton’s first January signing after ‘negotiating his own release’ from Rovers.

Forrester was reportedly in Scotland last night for a medical and will sign a short term deal to be officially confirmed when the transfer window opens on Friday.

If the move does go through, it will mark the third time Forrester has worked under Warburton.

The Rangers boss was his coach at youth level at Watford before he switched to Aston Villa. Warburton was also at Brentford when Forrester switched to Griffin Park in 2011.

A ‘source close to the deal’ is quoted in the Daily Record, saying: “Harry is a very talented lad who has lost his way a bit. It was a case of too much too young at Aston Villa.

“But Mark Warburton always expected very big things for him and clearly wants to give Harry another chance to prove himself in Glasgow.

“If he can get the best out of Harry then Rangers will have won a watch.”

Rovers boss Darren Ferguson has made not secret of the need to move players out of Rovers as he looks to re-shape his squad in January and out-of-favour Forrester is at the top of the list.

News of a potential departure will come as little surprise given the attacking midfielder has played just 71 minutes of senior football since Ferguson became Rovers manager two months ago and has not featured at all since the end of October.

And Forrester has not been in any of the last five matchday squads.

Explaining the 24-year-old’s absence from the squad that travelled to Oldham Athletic on Monday, Ferguson said: “Harry has just not been involved and that is just the way it is at the minute.

“I went with the 18 that I did and as a manager you’ve got to make decisions and stick by them.”

Loanee Cameron Stewart was out with a back injury with Ferguson opting for youngsters Liam Mandeville and Billy Whitehouse on the bench.

Forrester scored twice in a development squad game against Rotherham United and Ferguson suggested he would have been on the bench against Burton Albion but for a bout of tonsilitis.
