It was a Halloween horror-show for Doncaster Rovers down in Buckinghamshire as they fell to a demolarising 6-1 defeat against newly promoted MK Dons.
Grant McCann shuffled the pack in his 250th match in charge of the club - making three changes from the team soundly beaten at Luton Town on Tuesday, with Alfie May replacing Will Keane in attack, George Broadbent coming in for the previously everpresent Robbie Gotts, and Jordan Thomas getting the opportunity to start out wide in place of Hakeeb Adelakun, who was hooked at half-time during the defeat at Kenilworth Road.
Doncaster Rovers got off to a bad start, with MK Dons opening the scoring inside two minutes through a low strike from the edge of the area from Aaron Collins. That start for McCann’s men soon went from bad to worse with the hosts quickly doubling their advantage 20 minutes later with Collins scoring his second of the game from close range.
It left Rovers, who haven’t come from behind to win a league game since February, with a mountain to climb after a hugely disappointing first-half display. Thomas got on the scoresheet in the 64th minute to give the visitors hope of reducing the deficit, but that same hope quickly turned to despair with Collins tucking away his third and fourth in the 69th and 76th minute, resepctively, with substitutes Patterson and Marvin Ekpiteta also getting on the scoresheet to pile on further misery in arguably one of the worst afternoons of McCann’s managerial career with Rovers.
