‘Might be available’ - Grant McCann provides Doncaster Rovers injury update ahead of Stockport County clash

The latest Doncaster Rovers injury news ahead of this week’s game at home to Stockport County

Doncaster Rovers boss Grant McCann says there’s a possibility that two injured players could return to the matchday squad for Tuesday night’s clash with Stockport County.

Last time out, an injury-hit Rovers team fell to a 2-1 defeat against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium, marking the team’s first loss since a defeat to AFC Wimbledon on 12 September.

McCann’s men were missing the likes of James Husband, Jack Senior, Jamie Sterry, Jordan Thomas and Tommi O’Reilly for the visit to Leicester.

All of those five players have a chance of featuring against Sheffield Wednesday, unlike longer-term absentees such as James Collins, Matty Pearson and Frankie Okoronkwo, with the latter recently being ruled out until at least January 2027.

When asked for an update on injuries ahead of the Stockport County clash, McCann said: “It’ll probably be more likely that players return to face Sheffield Wednesday than Stockport.

“Jamie Sterry, Jordan Thomas and Tommi O’Reilly did some stuff on the grass. Jamie still needs another week's training, but Jordan and Tommi haven’t missed much, so they might be available at Stockport, we’ll wait and see.

“Jack Senior worked well today, so we’ll see how he is, but he probably needs another week’s training. They are the four that are closest to coming back.”

Doncaster Rovers’ home clash with Stockport is the latest in a long line of challenging fixtures, with Sheffield Wednesday and Luton Town both on the horizon.

Rovers beat Stockport in the first game of the season in the League Cup, progressing via penalties after a tightly-fought 1-1 draw at Edgeley Park which saw Alfie May and Kyle Wootton get on the scoresheet.

However, it promises to be a challenging test, with The Hatters picking up 19 points from their opening 10 matches, leaving them second in the League One table.
