Grant McCann hails ‘unbelievable’ Doncaster Rovers star Robbie Gotts after impressive start to the season
Robbie Gotts has started every single league game for Doncaster Rovers this season
Grant McCann has described Doncaster Rovers star Robbie Gotts as a class act while praising the midfielder’s relentless desire to improve.
Now in his second season in DN4, Gotts continues to be one of the first names on the teamsheet. He’s barely missed a minute of league football this season and has played a vital role in the Rovers engine room playing alongside the likes of Owen Bailey and George Broadbent.

When asked to describe Gotts’ start to the campaign, McCann simply said: “Class. He gets better and better, developing all the time, working hard.
“I'll tell you what I like about Robbie is that he wants to get better,” McCann said.
“I've been in football a long time and I've seen players that come in, train, put their stuff on and go home. That's not him.
“He constantly works on his game, whether that's on the analyst, with me, on the training pitch. Constantly looking to improve.
“He constantly works on his game, whether that's on the analyst, with me, on the training pitch. Constantly looking to improve. I'm exchanging texts with him.

“Last week or the week before, he sent me a message saying, I'm watching Ethan Galbraith. What do you think? Little things like this. He's watching the Northern Ireland game to watch Galbraith.
“He's watching Shea Charles. He's coming in, he's giving me feedback. He's unbelievable.”
Gotts arrived at Doncaster Rovers in 2025 shortly after the club’s promotion to League One. When he came in from Barrow he was initially utilised as an attacking midfielder, featuring predominantly in the No.8 position. But as the season progressed he made the transition into a deep-lying midfield role, something which McCann believes suits the 26-year-old down to the ground.
McCann added: “I believe, December or January last year, when he broke into the six role, from then to the end of the season, he was the best number six in the division, statistically. In every metric, he was the best.
“And he started the season like that again. And yeah, he's top and he's just getting better and better.”
