Grant McCann’s five changes against Sheffield Wednesday worked a treat on Saturday as the team returned to winning ways with an impressive 2-0 victory.
Owen Bailey, who continues to be one of the first names on the teamsheet, scored a brace to end his nine-game run without a league goal at the Club Doncaster Sports Village, with his only previous strike this season coming away to Stevenage.
It was just what the doctor ordered from McCann’s point of view with Jamie Sterry and Jack Senior coming out of the treatment room and into the starting lineup to produce stellar displays in an afternoon where everything just looked more cohesive as Rovers returned to a more familiar 4231 system.
McCann described the performance as one which had ‘more intensity’ than the defeat to Stockport County four days earlier, and he’ll look to continue that against Luton Town on Tuesday night.
But will he stick with the same team that beat the Owls over the weekend or air on the side of caution given Senior and Sterry’s lack of minutes in recent weeks?
Here’s our predicted Doncaster Rovers lineup for the trip to face Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.

1. Tommy Simkin
The Stoke City loanee produced a number of excellent saves in the second half of Doncaster Rovers' win over Sheffield Wednesday. He'll be targeting a fifth clean sheet of the campaign at Kenilworth Road. | Howard Roe

2. Jamie Sterry
The former Newcastle United right-back made his first appearance since August and slotted excellently back into the back four. He was taken off after 68 minutes perhaps with this game in mind given his lack of recent action. | Howard Roe
3. Sean Grehan
The former Crystal Palace man helped the team to a vital clean sheet against Sheffield Wednesday and won the majority of his aerial duels. He deserves a place in the lineup at Kenilworth Road. | Howard Roe AHPIX LTD 07973739229 [email protected]
4. Neill Byrne
Neill Byrne was solid defensively during the win over the Owls. He's started every league game this season and that's unlikely to change on Tuesday. | National World
