'Highlights his potential', 'Strong display' - Doncaster Rovers player ratings in Peterborough United win

Our player ratings from Doncaster Rovers’ trip to Peterborough

Doncaster Rovers secured their first victory of the League One season with a hard-fought 2-0 win away at Peterborough United.

Grant McCann made one change from the team that lost at AFC Wimbledon last weekend. Sean Grehan, fresh from earning a call-up to represent Republic of Ireland at Under-21 level, replaced the injured Matty Pearson at the heart of the defence in an otherwise unchanged team.

Doncaster Rovers were the better side in the first half and deservedly took the lead through Alfie May’s strike from close distance after just 15 minutes. It was the striker’s first League One goal from open play since returning to DN4 and also summer signing Leon Ayinde’s first assist in the Football League after his move from Ipswich Town.

Peterborough responded with renewed enthusiasm in the second half but despite having 14 shots at goal failed to register a single shot on target as Rovers were able to absorb a few waves of pressure. Ultimately, the game was decided in the closing stages when substitute Isaac Hutchinson finished the job with a goal from close distance.

Here are our player ratings from the game.
