Doncaster Rovers: Darren Moore on rumours of return for Herbie Kane

Darren Moore has played down speculation linking former loanee Herbie Kane with a return to Doncaster Rovers.

The Liverpool midfielder was in the stands at the Keepmoat on Saturday to watch Rovers’ 3-2 win over Fleetwood Town before spending time with former housemate Kieran Sadlier over the weekend.

Kane's presence spawned a surge of social media speculation that he was poised to complete another loan move.

But Moore insists the 20-year-old was in Doncaster on the invitation of friends in the squad, with the Rovers boss admitting he did not know Kane was there until after the game.

“It’s probably just speculation that has got out of hand,” Moore said.

“I didn’t know he was at the game until after the game.

“Obviously Herbie knows one or two of the boys here and one of them invited him to come along and watch the game.

“I didn’t realise he was here.

“I know he is a fantastic player. He was a good player for the club last season.

“But I would only imagine that is speculation linking him with a move back here.”

Kane was expected to have secured a loan move to the Championship this season in order to build on his excellent campaign in League One with Rovers.

But after the second tier transfer window closed earlier this month, speculation grew that he could in fact find himself back with Rovers this term.

He has also been linked with League One rivals Portsmouth and Coventry City, while a move to Scotland or abroad remains a possibility this month.
