Doncaster Rovers winger Luke Molyneux set to miss remainder of season + Billy Sharp update

Luke Molyneux will miss Doncaster Rovers' final three games of the campaign as he looks to correct a season-long injury that has hampered him.

The winger, 28, has been playing through the pain barrier "all season" and is to undergo surgery on a double hernia, according to his manager Grant McCann.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday night's re-arranged home game with champions-elect Lincoln City, McCann said: "Luke won't play again this season. He's been carrying a double hernia all season. Literally from August!

"'It's a testament to the lad that he's continued to play with his groin being so sore. It's got to a stage now where it's got too painful for him.

"He's struggling to strike a ball or cross it because it's affecting him so he's booked in for an operation next week. They are quite quick so if it was in the season for example he'd be back within a week to ten days but it's a case where we don't have to take any more risks with him.

"He's ran himself into the ground all season and has contributed alot of goals and it's important to get this done now and let it settle for a few weeks before getting back on to the pre-season programme so that's he nice and sharp.

"He just wants to play and has been chomping at the bit and he's been in good form so we didn't want to affect him (and have it done earlier).

"He's been one of our most consistent performers over the last two years but it's too painful for him now and he needs to get it done."

McCann also offered an update on injured centre-forward Billy Sharp, who has been sidelined since mid-March with a calf complaint.

The veteran is again set to miss out against the Imps but the hope is that he'll be back for Stevenage's visit this coming weekend.

"Billy's trained today (Monday) which is good, although the Lincoln game may come too soon," McCann added. "So we're probably looking at Stevenage more, for him."
