The striker is available for selection again, having endured an injury-hit season to date, but has been overlooked for Doncaster’s last two matches.

Griffiths, 22, has scored two goals in 20 appearances for the club since signing a two-and-a-half year deal for an undisclosed fee in January.

“It’s about regular training, being on the training pitch as much as possible,” said Rovers boss Danny Schofield when asked what the former Tottenham and Lyon youngster needs to do to stake a claim.

"It’s about trying to eradicate those niggles and give me a problem; show me that he’s training at a high intensity, that his fitness levels are always increasing.

"That’s what he needs to do to get a chance.”

Griffiths was a prolific goalscorer at youth and development level but his senior career has yet to take off.

He reportedly attracted interest from clubs across Europe after scoring 33 times for Tottenham’s U18s in the 2017/18 season before signing a four year contract with Lyon in August 2018.

While in France he featured for Lyon’s under-19s and B team, who play in the fourth tier of French football.

London-born Griffiths scored 15 goals in 38 games in total but never broke into the first XI.

He previously represented England at youth level and was a member of the U17 side featuring Phil Foden, Jadon Sancho and Marc Guehi that reached the final of the UEFA Under-17 Championship in 2017.

His Rovers teammate Aidan Barlow also played for The Three Lions at that tournament, scoring once.
