Doncaster Rovers squad handed weekend up as plans are drawn up for dealing with coronavirus shutdown

The EFL announced on Friday that all matches will be suspended until at least the weekend of April 4 following the further spread of the virus.

Rovers had been due to play five matches over the next three weeks with training structured around that schedule.

But plans have been torn up with boss Darren Moore and his senior coaching staff drawing up multiple alternatives for the coming week and beyond.

Complicating matters is the rapidly changing situation regarding the spread of the virus - as reflected in the EFL’s change of stance inside 24 hours over whether matches should take place this weekend.

While Rovers have no current need to close the Cantley Park training ground, that situation could alter very quickly should anyone based at the facility be diagnosed with Covid-19.

The club will take advice regularly from the EFL, Football Association and government over the best ways in which to proceed.

The Rovers squad is understood to be expecting 11th hour confirmation of plans but were given a couple of days off.

Meanwhile, the club’s public facilities and offices remain open with the club shop and ticket office continuing to trade, while the Sunday car boot at the Keepmoat is unaffected.

Extra precautionary measures have been put in place at the stadium, including extra access to hand sanitiser.
